The fees are reviewed by the Trustees annually. The Rooms were built as a result of fund raising locally by the people of Billericay from the 1860's onwards and in recent years have been maintained and developed with additional funds from Grants and Local Organisations (see 'Refurbishment' below). Therefore the Trustees feel that charities and local residents should benefit from reduced fees where possible.
The Management Committee is pleased that private and commercial hire fees have not increased since 2011. Even better, in both 2016 and 2017 rates were reduced for registered charity bookings and non-profit bookings by Billericay residents, clubs, societies and associations. These reductions were possible as a result of strong private and commercial bookings.
Refurbishment
Early in the 2000s the Rooms were fully refurbished, with improved facilities for wheelchair users and improved lighting. This work was achieved with a huge amount of help and funds from the local Rotary and Lions clubs, plus grants from many sources including the Lottery Heritage Fund.
The Management Committee are extremely pleased with the results of the refurbishment work, which has upgraded this nineteenth century building to twenty-first century standards. Since then the Rooms have been redecorated periodically to a high standard by two Community Service groups.
The Management Committee has continued to improve the condition of the Rooms and in 2018 installed a shutter for the Atrium, blinds for the doors and an electrically operated projection screen to allow films and similar events to take place at any time of day. In addition, a larder fridge has been added to the kitchen facilities, a baby-changing table has been added to the toilets and the hand-dryers in the toilets have been upgraded to airblade-style units.
